Salaknā al-fayāfī wa-l-qifāra ʿalā an-nujbi

سَلَكْنَا الْفَيَافِي وَالْقِفَارَ عَلَى النُّجْبِ
تَجِدُّ بِنَا الْأَشْوَاقُ لَا حَادِيَ الرَّكْبِ
فَنَهْوِي عَلَيْهَا بِالْعَشِيَّةِ وَالَّذِي
يَلِيهَا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ الْبَهِيمِ عَلَى الْقُتْبِ
يَلَذُّ لَنَا أَنْ لَا يَلَذَّ لَنَا الْكَرَى
لِمَا خَالَطَ الْأَرْوَاحَ مِنْ خَالِصِ الْحُبِّ
وَيَبْرُدُ حَرٌّ بِالْهَجِيرِ تَمُدُّهُ
سُمُومٌ إِذَا هَاجَتْ تُزَعْزِعُ لِلْكُثْبِ
وَمَا زَالَ هَذَا دَأْبَنَا وَصَنِيعَنَا
إِلَى أَنْ أَنَخْنَا الْعِيسَ بِالْمَنْزِلِ الرَّحْبِ
نَزَلْنَا بِخَيْرِ الْعَالَمِينَ (مُحَمَّدٍ)
نَبِيِّ الْهُدَى بَحْرِ النَّدَى سَيِّدِ الْعُرْبِ
رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ هَاشِمِيٌّ مُعَظَّمٌ
وَسَيِّدُ مَنْ يَأْتِي وَمَنْ مَرَّ فِي الْحُقْبِ
مَلَاذُ الْبَرَايَا غَوْثُ كُلِّ مُؤَمِّلٍ
كَرِيمُ السَّجَايَا طَيِّبُ الْجِسْمِ وَالْقَلْبِ
يُؤَمِّلُهُ الْعَافُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ مُمْحِلٍ
كَتَأْمِيلِهِمْ لِلسَّاكِبَاتِ مِنَ السُّحْبِ
كَرِيمٌ حَلِيمٌ شَأْنُهُ الْجُودُ وَالْوَفَا
يُرَجَّى لِكَشْفِ الضُّرِّ وَالْبُؤْسِ وَالْكَرْبِ
رَحِيمٌ بَرَاهُ اللهُ لِلْخَلْقِ رَحْمَةً
وَأَرْسَلَهُ دَاعٍ إِلَى الْفَوْزِ وَالْقُرْبِ
وَأَرْسَلَهُ بِالْحَقِّ وَالصِّدْقِ وَالْهُدَى
وَبَذْلِ النَّدَى وَالرِّفْقِ وَالْمَنْطِقِ الْعَذْبِ
بِهِ اللَّهُ أَنْجَانَا مِنَ الشِّرْكِ وَالرَّدَى
وَمِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ وَالْجِبْتِ وَالنُّصْبِ
وَأَدْخَلَنَا فِي خَيْرِ دِينٍ يُحِبُّهُ
وَيَرْضَاهُ دِينِ الْحَقِّ فَالْحَمْدُ لِلرَّبِّ
لَهُ الْمِنَّةُ الْعُظْمَى عَلَيْنَا بِبَعْثِهِ
إِلَيْنَا وَمِنَّا عَالِيَ الذِّكْرِ وَالْكَعْبِ
نَبِيٌّ عَظِيمٌ خُلْقُهُ الْخُلُقُ الَّذِي
لَهُ عَظَّمَ الرَّحْمٰنُ فِي سَيِّدِ الْكُتْبِ
وَأَيَّدَهُ بِالْوَحْيِ وَالنَّصْرِ وَالصَّبَا
وَأَمْلَاكِهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَبِالرُّعْبِ
وَبِالْمُعْجِزَاتِ الظَّاهِرَاتِ الَّتِي نَمَتْ
عَلَى الْقَطْرِ عَدًّا بَعْدَ مَا كَلَّ مَنْ نُبِّي
وَآتَاهُ قُرْآنًا بِهِ أَعْجَزَ الْوَرَى
جَمِيعًا عَلَى التَّأْبِيدِ يَا لَكَ مِنْ غَلْبِ
أَلَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا قَرَابَةٌ
وَذُرِّيَّةٌ جِئْنَاكَ لِلشَّوْقِ وَالْحُبِّ
وَقَفْنَا عَلَى أَعْتَابِ فَضْلِكَ سَيِّدِي
لِتَقْبِيلِ تُرْبٍ حَبَّ ذَلِكَ مِنْ تُرْبِ
وَقُمْنَا تُجَاهَ الْوَجْهِ وَجْهٍ مُبَارَكٍ
عَلَيْنَا بِهِ نُسْقَى الْغَمَامَ لَدَى الْجَدْبِ
أَتَيْنَاكَ زُوَّارًا نَرُومُ شَفَاعَةً
إِلَى اللَّهِ فِي مَحْوِ الْإِسَاءَةِ وَالذَّنْبِ
وُفُودٌ وَزُوَّارٌ وَأَضْيَافُ حَضْرَةٍ
مُكَرَّمَةٍ مُسْتَوْطَنِ الْجُودِ وَالْخِصْبِ
وَفِي النَّفْسِ حَاجَاتٌ وَثَمَّ مَطَالِبٌ
نُؤَمِّلُ أَنْ تُقْضَى بِجَاهِكَ يَا مُحْبِي
تَوَجَّهْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فِي كُلِّ حَاجَةٍ
لَنَا وَمُهِمٍّ فِي الْمَعَاشِ وَفِي الْقَلْبِ
وَإِنَّ صَلَاحَ الدِّينِ وَالْقَلْبِ سَيِّدِي
هُوَ الْغَرَضُ الْأَقْصَى فَيَا سَيِّدِي قُمْ بِي
عَلَيْكَ صَلَاةُ اللَّهِ يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ تَلَا
كِتَابًا مُنِيرًا جَاءَ بِالْفَرْضِ وَالنَّدْبِ
عَلَيْكَ صَلَاةُ اللَّهِ يَا خَيْرَ مُهْتَدٍ
وَهَادٍ بِنُورِ اللَّهِ فِي الشَّرْقِ وَالْغَرْبِ
عَلَيْكَ صَلَاةُ اللَّهِ يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ دَعَا
إِلَى اللَّهِ بَعْدَ الرِّفْقِ بِالسُّمْرِ وَالْقُضْبِ
عَلَيْكَ صَلَاةُ اللَّهِ يَا سَيِّدًا سَرَى
إِلَى اللَّهِ حَتَّى مَرَّ بِالسَّبْعِ وَالْحُجْبِ
وَقَامَ بِـ ﴿أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ﴾ فَنَاهِيكَ رِفْعَةً
وَمَجْدًا سَمَا حَتَّى أَنَافَ عَلَى الشُّهْبِ
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ مَا سَارَ مُخْلِصٌ
إِلَيْكَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ وَالْمُصْطَفَى حَسْبِي
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ مَا أَسْحَرَ الصَّبَا
فَحَرَّكَ أَرْوَاحَ الْمُحِبِّينَ لِلْقُرْبِ
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ مَا بَارِقٌ سَرَى
وَمَا غَنَّتِ الْأَطْيَارُ فِي عَذَبِ الْقُضْبِ
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ مَا حَرَّكَ الْحِدَا
قُلُوبًا إِلَى مَغْنَاكَ بِالشَّوْقِ وَالْحُبِّ
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ عَدَّ النَّبَاتِ وَالـ
ــرِّمَالِ وَعَدَّ الْقَطْرِ فِي حَالَةِ السَّكْبِ
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ مَلَاذُنَا
لَدَى الْيُسْرِ وَالْإِعْسَارِ وَالسَّهْلِ وَالصَّعْبِ
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ حَبِيبُنَا
وَسَيِّدُنَا وَالذُّخْرُ يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ نُبِّي
عَلَيْكَ سَلَامُ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ إِمَامُنَا
وَمَتْبُوعُنَا وَالْكَنْزُ وَالْغَوْثُ فِي الْخَطْبِ
وَصَلَّى عَلَيْكَ اللَّهُ دَأْبًا وَسَرْمَدًا
وَسَلَّمَ يَا مُخْتَارُ وَالْآلِ وَالصَّحْبِ

Salaknā al-fayāfī wa-l-qifāra ʿalā an-nujbi

Tajiddu binā al-ʾashwāqu lā ḥādiya ar-rakbi

Fa-nahwī ʿalayhā bi-l-ʿashiyyati wa-lladhī

Yalīhā mina al-layli al-bahīmi ʿalā al-qutbi

Yaladhdhu lanā ʾan lā yaladhdha lanā al-karā

Limā khālaṭa al-ʾarwāḥa min khāliṣi al-ḥubbi

Wa-yabrudu ḥarrun bi-l-hajīri tamudduhu

Sumūmun ʾidhā hājat tuzaʿzicu li-l-kuthbi

Wa-mā zāla hādhā daʾbunā wa-ṣanīʿunā

ʾIlā ʾan ʾanakhanā al-ʿīsa bi-l-manzili ar-raḥbi

Nazalnā bi-khayri al-ʿālamīna (Muḥammadin)

Nabiyyi al-hudā baḥri an-nadā sayyidi al-ʿurbi

Rasūlun ʾamīnun Hāshimiyyun muʿaẓẓamun

Wa-sayyidu man yaʾtī wa-man marra fī al-ḥuqubi

Malādhu al-barāyā ghawthu kulli muʾammilin

Karīmu as-sajāyā ṭayyibu al-jismi wa-l-qalbi

Yuʾammiluhu al-ʿāfūna min kulli mumḥilin

Ka-taʾmīlihim li-s-sākibāti mina as-suḥbi

Karīmun ḥalīmun shaʾnuhu al-jūdu wa-l-wafā

Yurajjā li-kashfi aḍ-ḍurri wa-l-buʾsi wa-l-karbi

Raḥīmun barāhu Allāhu li-l-khalqi raḥmatan

Wa-ʾarsalahu dāʿin ʾilā al-fawzi wa-l-qurbi

Wa-ʾarsalahu bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-ṣ-ṣidqi wa-l-hudā

Wa-badhli an-nadā wa-r-rifqi wa-l-manṭiqi al-ʿadhbi

Bihi Allāhu ʾanjānā mina ash-shirki wa-r-radā

Wa-min ʿamali ash-shayṭāni wa-l-jibti wa-n-nuṣbi

Wa-ʾadkhalanā fī khayri dīnin yuḥibbuhu

Wa-yarḍāhu dīnu al-ḥaqqi fa-l-ḥamdu li-r-rabbi

Lahu al-minnatu al-ʿuẓmā ʿalaynā bi-baʿthihi

ʾIlaynā wa-minnā ʿāliya adh-dhikri wa-l-kaʿbi

Nabiyyun ʿaẓīmun khuluquhu al-khuluqu alladhī

Lahu ʿaẓẓama ar-Raḥmānu fī sayyidi al-kutbi

Wa-ʾayyadahu bi-l-waḥyi wa-n-naṣri wa-ṣ-ṣabā

Wa-ʾamlākihi wa-l-muʾminīna wa-bi-r-ruʿbi

Wa-bi-l-muʿjizāti aẓ-ẓāhirāti allatī namat

ʿAlā al-qaṭri ʿaddan baʿda mā kulla man nubbi

Wa-ʾātāhu Qurʾānan bihi ʾaʿjaza al-warā

Jamīʿan ʿalā at-taʾbīdi yā laka min ghalbi

ʾAlā yā Rasūla Allāhi ʾinnā qarābatun

Wa-dhurriyyatun jiʾnāka li-sh-shawqi wa-l-ḥubbi

Wa-waqafnā ʿalā aʿtābi faḍlika sayyidī

Li-taqbīli turbin ḥabba dhālika min turbi

Wa-qumnā tujāha al-wajhi wajhin mubārakin

ʿAlaynā bihi nusqā al-ghamāma ladā al-jadbi

ʾAtaynāka zuwwāran narūmu shafāʿatan

ʾIlā Allāhi fī maḥwi al-ʾisāʾati wa-dh-dhanbi

Wufūdun wa-zuwwārun wa-ʾaḍyāfu ḥaḍratin

Mukarramatin mustawṭini al-jūdi wa-l-khiṣbi

Wa-fī an-nafsi ḥājātun wa-thamma maṭālibun

Nuʾammilu ʾan tuqḍā bi-jāhika yā muḥibbī

Tawajjah Rasūla Allāhi fī kulli ḥājatin

Lanā wa-muhimmin fī al-maʿāshi wa-fī al-qalbi

Wa-ʾinna ṣalāḥa ad-dīni wa-l-qalbi sayyidī

Huwa al-gharaḍu al-ʾaqṣā fa-yā sayyidī qum bī

ʿAlayka ṣalātu Allāhi yā khayra man talā

Kitāban munīran jāʾa bi-l-farḍi wa-n-nadbi

ʿAlayka ṣalātu Allāhi yā khayra muhtadin

Wa-hādin bi-nūri Allāhi fī ash-sharqi wa-l-gharbi

ʿAlayka ṣalātu Allāhi yā khayra man daʿā

ʾIlā Allāhi baʿda ar-rifqi bi-s-sumri wa-l-quḍbi

ʿAlayka ṣalātu Allāhi yā sayyidan sarā

ʾIlā Allāhi ḥattā marra bi-s-sabʿi wa-l-ḥujbi

Wa-qāma bi- ﴿ʾaw ʾadnā﴾ fa-nahīka rifʿatan

Wa-majdan samā ḥattā ʾanāfa ʿalā ash-shuhbi

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi mā sāra mukhliṣun

ʾIlayka yaqūlu: Allāhu wa-l-Muṣṭafā ḥasbī

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi mā ʾasḥara aṣ-ṣabā

Fa-ḥarraka ʾarwāḥa al-muḥibbīna li-l-qurbi

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi mā bāriqun sarā

Wa-mā ghannati al-ʾaṭyāru fī ʿadhbi al-quḍbi

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi mā ḥarraka al-ḥidā

Qulūban ʾilā maghnāka bi-sh-shawqi wa-l-ḥubbi

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi ʿadda an-nabāti wa-r-

-rimāli wa-ʿadda al-qaṭri fī ḥālati as-sakbi

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi ʾanta malādhunā

Ladā al-yusri wa-l-ʾiʿsāri wa-s-sahli wa-ṣ-ṣaʿbi

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi ʾanta ḥabībunā

Wa-sayyidunā wa-dh-dhukhru yā khayra man nubbi

ʿAlayka salāmu Allāhi ʾanta ʾimāmunā

Wa-matbūʿunā wa-l-kanzu wa-l-ghawthu fī al-khaṭbi

Wa-ṣallā ʿalayka Allāhu daʾban wa-sarmadan

Wa-sallama yā Mukhtāru wa-l-āli wa-ṣ-ṣaḥbi

We traversed the vast deserts and barren lands on noble steeds,
Driven on by longing, not by a caravan driver.

So we press on through the late afternoon, and through
The deep, dark night that follows, riding upon our saddles.

Sweet to us was that no sleep was sweet to us,
For pure love had mingled deeply with our souls.

The heat of midday would cool for us although
The scorching winds would rise and shake the dunes.

And so our habit and our way remained
Until at last we made our camels kneel at a spacious resting place.

We alighted at the dwelling of the best of all creation, Muhammad,
The Prophet of guidance, ocean of generosity, master of the Arabs.

A noble Messenger, trustworthy and greatly honoured,
Master of all who will come and all who have passed through ages.

Refuge of creation and succour for every seeker,
Of noble qualities, pure in body and in heart.

Those seeking relief from every hardship turn to him
As the thirsty turn to the downpouring clouds.

Noble and forbearing, his way is generosity and loyalty,
He is sought for the lifting of harm and misery and distress.

Merciful, created by Allah as a mercy for all beings
And sent as a caller to success and nearness.

He was sent with truth and sincerity and guidance,
With generosity, gentleness and speech of sweetest clarity.

Through him Allah saved us from idolatry and ruin,
And from the works of Satan, of sorcery, and of false idols.

And He entered us into the best religion which He loves
And which He is pleased with, the true religion, so praise belongs to the Lord.

His is the greatest favour upon us in sending
To us and from amongst us, one of exalted mention and noble standing.

An exalted Prophet, whose character is the very character
That the Most Merciful has magnified in the Master of all Books.

He supported him with revelation and victory and the gentle wind,
With His angels and the believers and with awe cast into hearts.

And with visible miracles that grew
Beyond number like raindrops after all others had wearied.

He granted him the Qur’an by which he outmatched all creation
Completely and forever. What a triumph beyond compare.

O Messenger of Allah, we are your kin
And your descendants who have come out of longing and love.

We have stood at the thresholds of your bounty, my master,
To kiss the earth, for that soil is dearer to our hearts.

We faced the blessed countenance whose light
Brings us the clouds’ sweet rain in times of drought.

We have come as visitors seeking your intercession
With Allah to erase our faults and sins.

Delegations and guests at a noble presence,
A dwelling of generosity and unending bounty.

Within our souls are needs and many desires,
We hope they will be fulfilled by your rank, O beloved.

Turn to our needs, O Messenger of Allah,
In every matter touching our lives and our hearts.

For the rectification of our religion and our hearts, my master,
Is the greatest aim, so my master uphold me.

Upon you be the prayers of Allah, O best of those who recited
A radiant Book containing obligations and virtues.

Upon you be the prayers of Allah, O best of those guided
And guiding by the light of Allah in East and West.

Upon you be the blessings of God, O best of those who called
To God with spears and swords only after exhausting gentleness.

Upon you be the prayers of Allah, O master who journeyed
To Allah until you passed through the seven heavens and veils.

You stood at “or nearer”, what an exalted station
And glory that rose above the brightest stars.

Upon you be the peace of Allah whenever a sincere soul
Travels to you saying Allah and the Chosen One suffice me.

Upon you be the peace of Allah whenever the morning breeze
Stirs the spirits of lovers yearning for nearness.

Upon you be the peace of Allah whenever a flashing light travels
And whenever birds sing upon fresh branches.

Upon you be the peace of God whenever the camel driver’s song
Moves hearts toward your abode with longing and love.

Upon you be the peace of Allah as numerous as plants
And sands and raindrops in their falling.

Upon you be the peace of Allah, for you are our refuge
In ease and hardship and in gentleness and severity.

Upon you be the peace of Allah, you are our beloved,
Our master and treasure, O best of those sent.

Upon you be the peace of Allah, you are our Imam,
Our leader, our treasure and our aid in trials.

And may Allah send His prayers upon you always and forever
And His peace, O Chosen One, and upon your family and companions.
